February E-Newsletter

Take a look at our new technology

January was a month of new ideas at HFHMC and now you get to see the results! If you have been to our website, www.habitatmobile.org lately, you will have noticed a few new things. For one, we have a new Blog that will be updated with the latest news and information about the goings on at HFHMC. You can become a follower of this blog if you are a member of Blogger, or you can subscribe to the RSS feed if you want to read the updates in your feed reader. If you have no idea what all that means, just keep coming back to our website – we will post links to the newest news and information there as well!

You will also notice that this e-newsletter is different. Based on feedback we have received from you, our subscribers, about the size of the e-newsletter we have been sending, this new design was created. The green links will lead you to places where you can view photos, videos, and additional information about the stories in this e-newsletter. This cuts down on the file size while still providing the information and visuals you want. Feedback is appreciated, so if you have any thoughts about this new monthly e-newsletter, please email ahavel@habitatmobile.org

Additional tech improvements include a MySpace page, a Facebook group, and a Causes page. We are also working on more videos for our brand new YouTube channel! All these additions in technology will help us communicate with volunteers, sponsors, and potential supporters of our mission in new and more interesting ways! Take a look at some of our new things and let us know what you think.

A sad day for the Habitat family

As you probably have heard by now, Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity, passed away on February 3. This was a sad day for all who support and love Habitat for Humanity, and he will be missed terribly by everyone who knew him or knew of him. You can read more about Millard Fuller’s life and achievements here.

Senior Women Build holds Dedication

Our Senior Women Build was a great success and we are about to dedicate! This home will be dedicated on February 27 at 3:30 pm, so if anyone wants to come out and celebrate with us, come to Cedar Point and join in the fun! Senior Women Build was a great project for us and for the ladies in the Mobile community. We met new friends and many ladies found out they can do anything they want to do, if they put their minds to it! If you want to see some of the fun we had building this house and other Women Build houses, watch this video!

Donate to Habitat in 2009 to Help More Families

Mortgage meltdown, credit crisis, an economy in ruins - and who suffers the most? The people who were already struggling. Our families work hard, sometimes they hold down more than one job and then have duties at home such as making dinner, helping children with homework, and running the household, sometimes as the only adult. People in these situations struggle to keep their head above water in the best of times, but now that we are seeing the worst, they are suffering even more. Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County is dedicated to helping these families at the fastest pace that we can while maintaining quality and a great worksite experience for our volunteers, as well as an educational experience for our homeowners. For instance, after they are qualified, prospective homeowners must work on someone else’s house and then their own house, putting in over 300 hours of “sweat equity” into the program before they can move into their home. The children even get an opportunity to help by getting good grades in school! If you would like to donate to Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County and help a family in Mobile realize their dream of homeownership, please contact Anita Havel by emailing ahavel@habitatmobile.org or call the office: 251-476-7171. You can also donate online or send a check.
